SWR tune antennas for the best radio-to-antenna match,
giving your radio the greatest possible signal strength.
*SWR means Standing Wave Ratio. What that means, basically, is making sure
the antenna is properly matched, electrically, to the radio. A poor match
will result in only some of the signal power actually leaving the antenna.
The rest of the power will be diverted back into your radio causing undue
heat build up, which degrades your radio life, and restricts full power from going out into the airwaves.
You need to be assured when you key up the mic and broadcast (what might
be an emergency call) that your signal will get through.
I can also help you pick out the best antenna for your needs.
Antennas come in all shapes and sizes, and perform differently.
An antenna with very high gain might work well on a large lake,
or the protected waters of a marina, but be useless in open waters with high seas.
